Warren M. Katz, CPA
Warren M. Katz, the managing partner, received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois in 1968 and is a Certified Public Accountant. He joined the firm in 1973 after having spent five years at the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse & Co., where he not only was involved in the supervision of major assignments, but also taught training classes for new accountants. He has a broad range of experience in serving small businesses and handles the internal administration of the firm.
In addition, Warren has testified on numerous occasions as an expert witness in both Federal and State court matters. He has been involved in the preparation of business valuations for court proceedings as well as advising numerous clients on the purchase and sale of closely-held businesses. He has attended numerous seminars on business valuations and litigation support throughout the country. He has also served on the Ethics Committee of the Illinois CPA Society several times during his career.
Fred M. Brody, CPA
Fred M. Brody, who heads our tax department, joined the firm in 1978 after seven years with the Internal Revenue Service, where he served in various capacities, including technical advisor to the District Director and liaison with the IRS National Office in Washington, D. C. Fred received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Illinois and his doctorate in law from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is a past general chairman and member of the Federal Tax Committee of the Illinois CPA Society.
Fred supervises all aspects of our tax controversies practice. He has also served as an expert witness in various court proceedings and as an instructor for several continuing education courses. Fred has a special area of expertise in the representation of asbestos qualified settlements trusts. This includes trust structuring, day-to-day trust accounting, operational processes and procedures, tax preparation and planning services and creation of a transparent process.
Mark Zivin, CPA
Mark A. Zivin is the head of our technology consulting department. In this capacity he has supervised the implementation of numerous computer networks and complicated accounting systems both for clients and within our firm. He has extensive experience in all areas of computer technology, both hardware and software. His educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and a masters degree in Business Administration in Finance and Accounting from the University of Chicago where he was an Institute of Professional Accounting fellow and a member of the business honorary society, Beta Gamma Sigma. He is also a CPA and has served on the Steering Committee for the American Institute of CPA's National Microcomputer Conference, the Steering Committee for the Illinois CPA Society's Computer Show, and the Information Systems Committee of the Illinois CPA Society.
In addition, Mark is the President of Business Productivity Systems, Inc. (BPS) which is a leading provider of client/server financial systems throughout the nation. They are a Value-Added Reseller of Solomon Software and offer a complete array of custom solutions to their clients. BPS provides its clients with the financial and technical services necessary to maximize efficiency and exceed expectations. BPS takes a pro-active approach towards the ever-changing needs of business and the evolution of technology. Mark's credentials also include: Solomon Certified Systems Engineer, a Solomon Certified Financial Systems Specialist, Microsoft MCSE Education (Windows NT, SQL Server), Citrix Winframe Certified Citrix Administrator (Winframe v1.7), National Conference Speaker/Presenter (AICPA Technology and Industry Conference).
Marc A. Moskowitz, CPA
Marc Moskowitz leads our Consulting Practice and has 25 years of experience helping C-level executives and department leaders leverage technology to maximize productivity, profitability and equity He has enabled organizations, from Fortune 500 companies to progressive, entrepreneurial firms and non-profits, transform strategic and tactical initiatives into leading-edge accounting technology and business intelligence solutions.
Marc is a 1987 graduate from Northern Illinois University School of Business with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting. He is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. He has held leadership positions on technology committees with the AICPA and has earned the highest level certification awarded by Microsoft for its Microsoft Dynamics products. He has also received advanced certification and training by Ralph Kimball and Kimball University for their Kimball Method of Data Warehouse Design and Dimensional Modeling.
Marc is married and has two daughters. When he is not with his family or working with clients, he enjoys training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Jeffrey H. Safron, CPA
Jeffrey H. Safron joined the firm in 1988 and is the partner in charge of tax compliance. He is a CPA and received his bachelor's degree in finance from Indiana University and a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law. Jeff offers his expertise in the areas of corporate, partnership, trust and individual taxation. He uses the latest sophisticated devices and structures to help our clients develop and implement gift and estate plans appropriate to their personal circumstances.
Paul A. Rossi, CPA
Paul A. Rossi received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from DePaul University in 1991 and is a Certified Public Accountant. He has over 13 years of public accounting experience in auditing, accounting and tax services and currently provides consulting services to closely-held businesses and their owners. He is also a certified consultant in Best Software's MAS 90 accounting software.
James A. Conover, CPA
James A. Conover is the firm's newest partner. He received his bachelor's of science degree from Illinois College in 1997 and started with the firm the same year. Jim is a Certified Public Accountant and also a member of the Illinois CPA Society and the AICPA. His experience is in providing accounting, tax and advisory services to a variety of clients in various industries including real estate, construction, professional & financial services, manufacturing and non-profit organizations. In addition, Jim has worked with numerous clients during purchases or sales of their closely held businesses.
Scott A. Wahls, CPA
Scott A. Wahls received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa in 2000 and is a Certified Public Accountant. For over a decade, Scott has provided accounting, tax and advisory services to businesses and their shareholders in a variety of industries including construction, oil and gas, manufacturing, wholesale distribution, facilities services, real estate and recycling. In addition to traditional accounting and tax services, Scott also advises clients in the selection, implementation and customization of various technology platforms strategically targeted at improving operations management, business reporting, and bottom-line profitability.
Prior to joining Morrison and Morrison, Scott worked in the assurance advisory practice of Arthur Andersen LLP. Scott is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society.
